Goal Setting

Last week while cleaning out my ‘pile of things that I need to deal with at some stage but generally not right now’ I came across my ‘2012 Goals and Dreams Worksheet’.

In the Personal Goals section – number 5, it says, “Blog.  I will write one at least twice a month.”  It’s even written in my handwriting.

I filled out this goals and dreams worksheet in January.  It’s now September and nearly a year since my last blog post.  It seems goal number 5 is not quite working out as planned.

But I still say the exercise was worth it.

I’ve never really been a ‘write down your goals’ type of person.  That’s not to say I don’t have them, it’s just usually I keep them in my head and change, revise or delete them as required.  Of course that does mean I’m not really holding anyone accountable said goals, hence option to delete and then never fail.

Last week was the first time I’d looked at the sheet since writing it, and surprisingly I could tick quite a few things off that list I’d made in January.

I am doing more freelance work.
I have qualified as a swimming teacher
I can have a basic conversation in Spanish.  Emphasis on basic.
I have seen somewhere in Australia that I hadn’t seen before
There’s a couple more, but you get the gist.

There are also a few things I’ve not achieved, the blog being one of them. However, reading through the sheet the other day was a physical reminder to myself of things I actually want to achieve.

My goals and dreams worksheet doesn’t have any of those things I get caught up with on it, it just has the things I want to do.  And I can’t help but wonder if I would have achieved the other things if I’ve never written them down at all.

So even though goal number 5 hasn’t quite worked out as planned, here I am, writing a blog after reminding myself that it’s something I want to do.
